12 Years After American Idiot, Green Day Still Want to Start a Revolution

The guys of Green Day might be in their mid-40s, but it wasn’t obvious from their show Monday night at the Palladium in Hollywood. Indeed, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Billie Joe Armstrong, the band’s lead singer, is four, not 44, as he jets around the stage like a pre-schooler on a sugar high.

Then again, most pre-schoolers don’t sing about being “Daddy’s little psycho and Mommy’s little soldier.”

A big band in a small-ish room: Green Day brings 'Revolution Radio' to the Palladium

Billie Joe Armstrong had a head full of memories when his long-running punk band, Green Day, played the Palladium in Hollywood on Monday night.

Not long into the show, the singer brandished a baby-blue electric guitar and told the crowd his mother had bought it for him for $300 when he was 10 years old.

“She’s sitting right up there,” he added, pointing proudly to the balcony.

He also recalled the last time he performed at the Palladium, as an opening act for Bad Religion in the early 1990s — shortly before Green Day’s album “Dookie” came out and launched the Berkeley group toward the arenas

Green Day storms back into California after touring much of the country since late last month to a sold-out performance at the Palladium in Hollywood. The band gave its usual punches with favorite hits such as "Longview," "When I Come Around," and "Jesus of Suburbia" as well as bits and pieces of their new album Revolution Radio including "Bang Bang," "Ordinary World" and "Revolution Radio." How anticipated was this show? Fans lined up nearly 48 hours to be up front and center. Opening for the band was Dog Party comprised of sisters Gwendolyn and Lucy Giles.

Green Day Earns Third No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart With 'Revolution Radio'

Green Day rocks the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 with its third chart-topping album, Revolution Radio. The band’s 12th studio effort enters atop the list with 95,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 13, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 90,000 were in traditional album sales.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Oct. 29-dated chart (where Revolution Radio debuts at No.
