Green Day Rocks Deep Cuts at Intimate New York Concert

Green Day headed to New York City the same weekend it released its new studio album, Revolution Radio. But the band didn’t play MetLife Stadium or Madison Square Garden; following the disappointing reception of 2012’s ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tré! trilogy, the veteran rockers embraced a back-to-basics approach, playing venues the size of which reflected their pre-Dookie days. On Saturday night (Oct. 8) at Webster Hall, the rock veterans played songs from that era, too.

Green Day celebrates 30 years together + new album ‘Revolution Radio’ in Town Hall

Twelve albums in, Green Day still celebrates together on the eve of their studio releases. They stayed up until midnight last night to ring in their new album, Revolution Radio. Hours later, they came by the SiriusXM studios in New York to talk with Jenny Eliscu and an intimate group of fans about their 30-year career together, the recording process for the new record and more.

Much of the music on Revolution Radio was created in wake of multiple mass shootings in America. The lead single, Bang Bang, was written from the perspective of a mass murderer and addresses the recent tragedies.

Famed Bay Area punk trio Green Day returned Friday with their tenth studio album, Revolution Radio. Clocking in at a mere 44 minutes, the collection of down-and-dirty cuts reels in the grandiosity that defined 2009’s 21st Century Breakdown and 2012’s triology of ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré! — and frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, 44, says the reception so far has been astounding.

“Without any exaggeration, it’s been the most positive response that we’ve ever had,” he tells EW.
