Green Day play Bilbao BBK festival
    July 16, 2013

Green Day closed this year's Bilbao BBK festival in Bilbao, Spain, on Saturday night (July 13), with a set packed with hits and novelty set pieces.

The US rock trio played The Ramones' 'Blitzkrieg Bop' and the theme from The Good, The Bad And The Ugly before taking to the stage and playing '99 Revolutions', 'Know Your Enemy' and 'Stay The Night', all taken from the band's run of three 2012 albums.

After 'Wake Me Up When September Ends', singer Billie Joe Armstrong introduced the older 'Burnout' by asking, "How many old green day fans are out there tonight? You guys are really old! This is off a record called 'Dookie'…"

Later, the band performed a number of set pieces familiar to anyone who has seen their recent stadium shows. They performed a short, seemingly impromptu, cover of ACDC's 'Highway To Hell', they fired toilet paper into the crowd from a motorised spooling device and fired T-shirts from a gun before leading the crowd in a chant of "Olé, olé, olé, olé!"

During 'Longview', Armstrong's son Jakob was brought on stage to play the guitar, and the band invited a member of the audience on stage to sing the remainder of the song. Afterwards, Armstrong declared it "the greatest thing that's ever happened on a stage in Bilbao".

The band later played a medley including 'Shout', 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life', 'Break on Through (To The Other Side)' and '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction', while the players donned wigs, comedy-sized glasses and colourful bras. The show concluded with 'Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)'
