  • Green Day at The Greek Theater in Berkeley, California on April 16, 2013 by Natalie Nesser

"It's been a long time since I've been able to say this. Berkeley, California!" shouted Billie Joe Armstrong to his screaming hometown crowd at The Greek Theater on April 16th, blowing kisses to the audience as a green-haired Tre Cool ran up to the drums, bassist Mike Dirnt took command of the spot to his left, and a stoic Jason White stood to his right... and the energy only escalated from there.

Opening with the tour theme song "99 Revolutions" from Green Day's latest trilogy album iTRE!, all I could think was Holy Fuck! The light show. The heart-pumping energy. The band members' inability to age. It all came together in one perfect moment to remind us all, despite events of the last six months, a golden oldies seniors tour this was not. As a legacy band, Green Day pulled off a rare and amazing feat: they really can have it both ways, simply because they've earned it.

Director Doug Hamilton's Broadway Idiot follows world-famous punk band Green Day as their album American Idiot is transformed into a Broadway musical. Hamilton captures the process from beginning to end, juxtaposed with Green Day's own trajectory to super stardom.

The opening night red carpet affair was all a-flutter with photographers and press lined up, while the festival volunteers and

  • I've had friends that have gotten tribute tattoos for their wives, husbands, girlfriends and boyfriends, and you know what? Those relationships never seem to last! Some believe that there is some kind of wacky curse that inflicts the relationship after going under the needle. Recently, Amber Rose got a HUGE tattoo of her fiancee Wiz Khalifa's face on her arm. It's so big that covering it up will prove near impossible, so let's hope for her it all works out! And you know what is surprising?

  • Ah, the side project. It's the perfect outlet for a creatively overstimulated musician who just can't be contained to one band. Unfortunately, many side projects are one-and-dones, rarely getting to tour or exist outside of the artist's main gig. Here are some of our favorite side projects of recent years that we'd love to see come back for another go 'round.

When you're Green Day, you can pretty much do whatever you like. Case in point: Foxboro Hot Tubs, a garage-rock side project that appeared out of thin air in late 2007 and dropped their full-length debut, Stop Drop And

The Broadway adaptation of Green Day’s Grammy Award-winning album American Idiot is coming to Fayetteville in a few weeks, and we’ve got some tickets to give away to the opening night show.

The show tells the story of “three lifelong friends, forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia,” and features several tracks from the album including “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday” and of course, “American Idiot.”

It opens at the Walton Arts Center on Friday, April 26, and runs through Sunday, April 28.
