American Idiot, however, was written with the help of the band themselves, with Green Day having already begun to build a storyline on the album of the same name. The musical tells the story of three friends from suburbia seeking adventure and success in the big city.

Following a critically acclaimed run in America, one which even saw Billy Joe Armstrong himself occassionally taking on one of the leading roles, the show has now arrived in

  • As I write the final review for Green Day's new album trilogy, I think it's only fitting I shamelessly plug Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe, the Oakland, Cali. restaurant partially owned by Mike Dirnt, Green Day's bass player, and a mecca to any visiting Green Day fan. • Graphic designer Chris Bilheimer has an impressive track record. In addition to working as REM’s full-time artistic director, he created the cover art for Neutral Milk Hotel’s indie classic, In The Aeroplane Over the Sea. He’s also designed every Green Day album cover since 1997′s Nimrod. This year, he produced the grungy neon artwork for the punk rockers’ latest trilogy, ¡Uno! ¡Dos! and ¡Tré!. From his new home in the music-obsessed Austin, Texas, Bilheimer talked about the inspiration for the aesthetic, and revealed the lo-fi, yet surprisingly contemporary process involved in its creation.

As with many musicals using a ready-made concept album as its score, the plot is hardly the main event; however,
