... And also, even if this picture is outdated, I think it is more to get the message out that there is a gun problem that needs to be dealt with. You're definately right that this was made to turn people against handguns, all I'm saying is that there clearly is an issue with guns in the States, and something needs to be done about it. Sure this may be propaganda, but the problems caused by guns are real. Not sure I've made myself clear, but overall I have no problem with what you've said. All I really want to say is that something should be done about guns in the States. On a side note, I've actually really enjoyed this discussion. Its nice to have a internet debate with someone who is smart , knows what they're talking about, and doesn't just trash talk. I realize some of what I said may have been ignorant and I apolagize for that, but still, I am open minded to all you have said, and now agree with most of it. You've helped me understand all of this better, so thanks for that. And I mean that in all honesty, I'm not being sarcastic.
...It is already illegal for those under 19 (or a similar age, depending on where you live) to consume alchohol. Its illegal to drink and drive. It is also illegal to serve alcohol to someone who is too intoxicated (at least it is where I live). Essentially there is not a lot to be done about alchohol issues except to create awarene - oh wow. I just realized how flawed my arguement is. You're right, BJ should be speaking out about alchohol abuse, because if he has the power to influence people, he could influence them not to drink to much. Now I agree with you on that 100%. You have made me second guess most of what I have said so far. Regardless, I still maintain that the situation with guns and alchohol is different. The difference is that the victims of guns, more often than not become victims due to regulations set by the government (not enough has been done to ensure it is difficult for the wrong person to get a gun). With alchohol though, the government cannot create anymore rules to prohibit it. Idealy, illegalizing drunkeness would help, however it would be impossible to enforce this. Due to this, the problems resulting from alchohol and guns cannot be treated the same way, as in order for them to be worked out, they both require different actions. Alchohol issues require awareness, while gun issues require governmental change. I do still agree with you that BJ should be speaking out about alchohol just as much as he is about guns (especially in light of his history). And I think you're right, he probably isn't, is because it would hurt his reputation. After all, it can't be that he is ignorant of the problems with alchohol as he has experienced them firsthand. As for what you're saying about this exact picture, you're right, it probably is biased and outdated, but that does not mean that there is no gun problem. Just because there may be places worse than the US for gun issues, does not makes the US' gun issues any less significant...
@throggie I completely understand what you're saying. It all makes sense, and it seems like you have done more research into all of this than I have, so I can't really argue with you.I would like to clarify my opinions on somethings however. First off, sorry if it came off sounding like I thought you were hating on BJ, I realized that you were probably a fan, and it was not my intention to make it sound like you weren't. I'm also a big fan and Idiot Club member, and I disagree with some of the things he says as well. As for your statement of BJ doing this to be controversial, you could be perfectly right. It is very possible that he is simply doing what he does because he wants to be rogue. However, I personnally see the controversial messages he shouts out, as him trying to get something across. My reasoning for this, is that in order for him to write songs about these things, he must have strong feelings about them. If he didn't feel the way he appears to in his music, he most likely wouldn't have come up with the lyrics. That does not discredit what you are suggesting though, he may be making statements like this simply to gain publicity, however, I feel that he believes in what he is saying. Still, it is very possibly that I have this opinion just because I don't want to think negatively of Billie Joe. Also, I really don't think I have looked into all this as much as you have so I appreciate what you're saying, and am begining to question my own beliefs on the matter. As for the thing about alchohol, I know what you're saying, and for the most part I agree with it. When I said what I said, I was meaning that without banning alchohol completely (which won't happen), there isn't much that can be done to prevent alchohol problems...
@Nataschi I really don't know what the fuck you're trying to say. I don't know whether you're supporting me or going against me. You're that pathetic. Hopefully everything you wrote was a joke, or you were drunk or high or something, because if you thought you were saying something meaningful, you are going to have trouble in life. And what is all "legal shit" you're talking about? I may need to reread over what throggie and I said, but as far as remember, nobody used any legal terms. We talked about legal issues, but didn't bring up any complicated legal statements or laws. I think you need to rethink what you classify as "legal" shit. That or you need to stop wasting your time posting meaningless comments on BJ's instagram and do some English homework, so that you better understand the language, and can actually get your message across.
@throggie I understand how you could interpret this as a publicity stunt by Billie Joe, however I do not think that is the case. For one thing, this picture will only be seen by those following BJ on Instagram or GD.com, so anyone who sees it is probably already a fan. Furthermore, with the many political messages BJ has given in his songs, it seems probable he would speak out on a topic such as this. Rather than using a statement to gain publicity as you said, I think he is using his publicity to make a statement. Due to his fame he has influential power over many perople and he's using it to make a difference. Also, that bit about how he isn't speaking out about alchohol related deaths, well generally when one dies of alchohol consumption it is their own fault, rather than someone elses. I don't know about you, but I'm more sympathetic to someone who gets shot and killed by someone else, than someone who gets wasted and dies on their own account. And even if he did want to do something about the alchohol problem, it would be utterly pointless, because next to no one would support a ban, and he would just be wasting his time.
