    As Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena approaches reopening, we take a look at the best acts that have played there in its long history…

    Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena reopens in September amid a £26m redevelopment project.

    The whole of the venue will be renovated over the coming months, including huge “sky needles” on top of the venue lighting up the Birmingham Skyline at night.

    The NIA, due to complete its renovation by December has started The Memory Stage, a social media drive to archive people’s memories of their best experiences at the venue.

    With that in mind, we scoured through the history books to give you the best 23 acts that have played the venue since its opening 23 years ago in 1991.

    Green Day - 2005

    Green Day underwent a huge transformation and came back as the stadium-punk band we all know today, blasting out their modern hits Holiday and American Idiot.

    It wasn’t the 30 plus songs we get these days but it was the first UK showing of the American Idiot album, as well as the first chance in a long time to hear the classics such as Basket Case.
