8-year-old guitarist brings house down at Green Day concert

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WTHR) - Green Day rocked Klipsch Music Center Wednesday night, but it was an 8-year-old boy who stole the show.

JC O'Rourke says he took his sons Liam and Leo to the concert and after a trip to the restroom, paused for a closer look at the stage. After a chat with security, guards and stage crew invited Liam to come closer for a quick glance from next to the stage.

As they started to return to their seats, a couple who was on their way out offered their tickets to the father and son.

From there, they were in the right place at the right time when Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong started looking for a young guitarist to join the band.

"I went nuts trying to get his attention, hopping up and down and pointing to Liam," O'Rourke wrote on Facebook Thursday.

Liam's parents say he has been playing guitar for about a year and is even in a band, "Beware of Cerberus," but he still had to pass Armstrong's test.

"Billie leaned over and explained to Liam what they were going to do, took off his guitar, placed it on Liam and had him demonstrate with Liam’s amp turned down," O'Rourke wrote. "The moment Billie confirmed the boy could really play, they cranked the amp and Liam owned the stage."

Liam's mother, Virginia Latour, posted the video to YouTube. (WARNING: There's some foul language, but it was at a rock concert after all!)
