Green Day slayed Emirates Stadium in London last night (June 1) with a two-and-a-half hour set packed with audience antics, bizarre costumes and Billie Joe Armstrong firing a huge toilet paper gun into the crowd.
The set, opening with a plethora of new material from the band's three new albums released last year – '¡Uno!', '¡Dos!' and '¡Tre!' – spanned the band's career, featuring such highlights as 'Basket Case', 'Welcome To Paradise', 'American Idiot', 'Minority' and 'Jesus Of Suburbia'.
The band were introduced by a man in a pink rabbit suit silently geeing up the crowd before Green Day emerged for a fiery '99 Revolutions' from '¡Tre!'. There followed 'Know Your Enemy' during which Billie Joe Armstrong invited a fan in a Union Jack body-stocking to clamber onstage and sing the chorus, while holding up a home-made sign saying "We Love You, Green Day".
*The man wasn't the only crowd member who took to the stage during the night: a young fan was carried from the front row to hold up a sign saying "Green Day Rocks" throughout 'Boulevard Of Broken Dreams', while another fan sang the final chorus of 'Longview' and a pink-haired girl was taught the three chords needed to play along with Operation Ivy's 'Knowledge'.
