Billie Joe Armstrong, Tre Cool, and Mike Dirnt -- a.k.a. punk rock's Green Day -- attended the Thursday night premiere of their documentary Broadway Idiot, which also officially kicked off the 14th annual Newport Beach Film Festival.

I've had friends that have gotten tribute tattoos for their wives, husbands, girlfriends and boyfriends, and you know what? Those relationships never seem to last! Some believe that there is some kind of wacky curse that inflicts the relationship after going under the needle. Recently, Amber Rose got a HUGE tattoo of her fiancee Wiz Khalifa's face on her arm. It's so big that covering it up will prove near impossible, so let's hope for her it all works out! And you know what is surprising? Oakland's own Green Day performed at Berkeley's Greek Theatre & hosted some VIPs from Children's Hospital Oakland! Children's Oakland patients & parents attended sound check & hung out with the band backstage before the concert. Also participating were members of REAL professional skateboard team. Ah, the side project. It's the perfect outlet for a creatively overstimulated musician who just can't be contained to one band. Unfortunately, many side projects are one-and-dones, rarely getting to tour or exist outside of the artist's main gig. Here are some of our favorite side projects of recent years that we'd love to see come back for another go 'round.
FOXBORO HOT TUBS
When you're Green Day, you can pretty much do whatever you like. Case in point: Foxboro Hot Tubs, a garage-rock side project that appeared out of thin air in late 2007 and dropped their full-length debut, Stop Drop And Roll!!! In early 2008. Sporadic shows followed, but we don't expect a sophomore album any time soon, mainly because Green Day's Dos! is more or less the second Foxboro record. ("Fuck Time" even started off as a Foxboro song.) [SH]
