    San Francisco may have the rock clubs, but many of the region’s most famous bands formed on the city’s outskirts. The Grateful Dead congealed on the Peninsula, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Green Day got their starts in the East Bay, and Huey Lewis put a Mill Valley bar on the cover of his band’s most famous album.
