Youth-driven MTV and tradition-bound Broadway may seem like strange bedfellows.
But the television showcase MTV is about to give "American Idiot" is almost sure to boost the profile of Green Day's Broadway tuner, particularly among young auds that are a core demo for the show.
MTV will air a behind-the-scenes special about "American Idiot," "Green Day Rocks Broadway," beginning April 16, just ahead of the previewing production's April 20 opening night at the St. James Theater.

Green Day's "American Idiot" musical doesn't officially open on Broadway until April 20, but Green Day are celebrating every day in April — and they want you to join in the fun.
The band has partnered with MTV to give 300 lucky fans the chance to attend a performance of "Idiot" during opening week. Beginning Tuesday (April 6) and running through Sunday, fanatics can go to AmericanIdiot.MTV.com to win tickets to a special April 22 performance at New York's St. James Theatre.

Green Day may have already won Grammys for its album American Idiot, but the band might have to prepare some new acceptance speeches if "American Idiot: The Musical" takes Broadway by storm -- fingers crossed! -- and the Tony awards come calling. When Green Day: Rock Band launches June 8, it’ll have Green Day albums American Idiot and Dookie, in their entirety, on the disc.
The news comes from European retailer Play who confirmed tracks from the “classic” Dookie Green Day to newer, more political American Idiot offerings.
What’s more, the listing says Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool all lent their digital likenesses to the game and provided full motion capture to bottle the band’s sometime zany on-stage antics appropriately.
And probably best of all, the game’s songs will be fully exportable to

It’s been sixteen years since Green Day emerged from Oakland, California, with catchy top-40 punk songs about girlfriends, masturbation, and stoner slackerdom. But though the three still-boyish men are still dressed in Chucks, leather jackets, and skinny jeans and still sport tinted hair, they have matured a bit, drummer Tre Cool says to me while plopped on a couch at 119 Bar, on East 15th Street.
On April 20, Broadway is officially plugging in and rocking out with the opening of Green Day's AMERICAN IDIOT, and we want YOU to be there with us.
