In the new issue of Kerrang! magazine, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong got fans salivating when he let it slip that the band was already working on songs for the follow-up to 2009's 21st Century Breakdown.

"We did some demos in Berlin, some in Stockholm, some just outside of Glasgow and some in Amsterdam," Armstrong told the magazine. "We wanted to get [the songs] down in some early form."

'We're kind of overwhelmed a little bit,' Billie Joe Armstrong says of Broadway debut.

On Wednesday at New York's St. James Theatre, previews finally began on Green Day's long-in-the-works "American Idiot" musical, which bowed last year at Berkeley Repertory Theater and then underwent some tinkering before making its way to Broadway.

Late Monday, reports began circulating that Tom Hanks' production company, Playtone, was in talks with Green Day about bringing their "American Idiot" musical to the big screen. Though nothing was confirmed, it appeared to be a significant step in the almost six-year-old saga of the film version of the band's massive 2004 album.
