"These Paper Bullets!: A Modish Ripoff of William Shakespeare's 'Much Ado About Nothing'" lives up to its frisky subtitle and then some.
This lively if overstretched show, which opened at the Geffen Playhouse on Wednesday, transplants the merry war between Beatrice and Benedick to London in the swinging '60s.
The stage is a kaleidoscope of miniskirts and go-go boots, beehives and mop tops, and more sex and drugs than anyone over 35 could possibly want or handle.

We instantly fell in love with this gnarly three-headed Green Day dog poster by Michael Hacker, which was made to celebrate an Austrian show back in 2013. Based in Vienna, Michael’s an illustrator and comic artist who has been designing and printing limited gig posters for bands like Queens of the Stone Age, Kvelertak, Mastodon, The Melvins or Red Fang since 2007. He recently finished his second comic book “Steroid Max” – a homage to 80’s and 90’s action movies.

Playwright Rolin Jones flew up to Oakland to meet with Billie Joe Armstrong about collaborating on a project together and as Jones was laying out the idea for a new play with music, fans kept interrupting, asking the Green Day frontman for an autograph. All the while, during the pitch, Jones says the rocker was mostly listening in silence.
“When I finished, he basically just stared at me,” Jones recalls, “and said, ‘Let me get this straight. You’re going to rewrite Shakespeare, and I’m going to rewrite The Beatles.’”
