The weather might have been too blustery for Gov. Andrew Cuomo to come to town, but as of 9:30 a.m. a dozen people were braving the conditions and camped outside the Blue Cross Arena for the Green Day concert tonight.
A few were waiting for the will call ticket window to open, but most had tickets — they just wanted a front-row spot.
Lori Perrego and her 13-year-old daughter left their home in Pittston, Pa., about 2:30 p.m. Sunday and have been camped outside the arena since about 6 p.m. They stayed warm with lots of blankets and sleeping bags. The family has done this several times.
Why? For them, it’s Green Day, so “That’s a silly question,” Lori Perrego said.
They’re passing the time time playing on cell phones, reading and talking. The doors will open about 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30.
Behind them is Aska Ohtsuka, 21, who lives in Ottawa but is from Australia. She’s also no stranger to camping out before concerts.
“They put on an incredible performance,” she said.
Green Day is a rock band that has been around since the 1980s, becoming mainstream in the 1990s with their album Dookie. They’ve continued to release hit albums since, most recently ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré!, a trilogy of albums in 2012.
