    MTV's 'Green Day: Rock Band' Contest: We Have A Winner!

    Last week, in celebration of the release of "Green Day: Rock Band," we announced a very cool contest. One lucky Green Day fan could win a "Rock Band 2" guitar autographed by Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool. All they had to do was submit a video explaining just why Green Day rocks.

    Pretty cool, right? As expected, we got tons of videos from rabid fans ... so many, in fact, that we were forced to spend all weekend going through the submissions. (We do it because we care.) But today, finally, we have a winner: Maddie, who hails from Boston and who absolutely blew us away with her video, a combination of admirable fanaticism — check the homemade artwork! — and bookish Green Day facts that also manages to be pretty funny, too. (Our favorite line: "They have two albums about crap!")

    Bottom line: We laughed, we cried and we learned something, which is about all you can ask for in a winning submission. Which is why we're proud to say congrats to Maddie. Your autographed "Rock Band 2" guitar will be on its way to you real soon! And to all of those who entered, thanks for your videos.

    NRDC has set up a special Gulf Coast Recovery Fund that provides an easy way for you to give to local organizations working on the frontlines to help people, wildlife and fragile ecosystems recover from the Gulf oil spill, the worst environmental disaster of our time. Every dollar given to our Fund will go directly -- via emergency grants -- to Gulf Coast non-profit groups.
     
    At the same time, NRDC has had a rapid-response team on the ground in the Gulf for the past month -- documenting the environmental impacts of the oil spill, advocating for local communities, and getting important stories to thousands of news outlets. Dozens of NRDC attorneys and scientists are working around the clock to hold BP accountable for the damage it is causing. And we’re working to make sure the Obama Administration is doing everything possible to defend our coastal waters from more disasters at the hands of Big Oil. We will fight in court, in federal agencies, and in Congress to win tough new safeguards that will rein in an oil industry that has been running amok.

    GREEN DAY GET LOUD AT 2010 TONY AWARDS
    June 13, 2010

    Green Day took the stage of Radio City Music Hall in New York on June 13, singing two songs "Holiday" and "Know Your Enemy". The Billie Joe Armstrong-fronted band were joined by cast of "American Idiot" musical during the performance.

    Prior to that, host Sean Hayes kicked off the Sunday ceremony with a piano medley of Broadway and classical tunes. Supporting him for the opening number included "Million Dollar Quartet" cast, Chad Kimball from "Memphis" and Kristin Chenoweth from "Promises, Promises".

    Later, Hayes received applause from audience when he shared a passionate kiss with Chenoweth on stage. The smooch was aimed to hit back at Newsweek which infamously singled out him and Jonathan Groff for portraying straight men. After the kiss, he said, "I know what you're thinking ... she's too short for me."

    GREEN DAY ROCKS TONY AWARDS, 'AMERICAN IDIOT' WINS

    The Tony Awards is not the event where you expect to see punk rockers center stage -- but then again, 'American Idiot' is not your typical Broadway musical. Green Day rocked the stage at the Tony's 64th awards show last night (June 13), performing with the cast of their acclaimed 'American Idiot' musical, which was nominated for three awards. Billie Joe and co. kicked off the event with a loud, raucous performance that ensured that no matter what, their performance would be the one that everyone would remember.
