07-29 - GREEN DAY ADDS MORE TALENT TO MUSICAL

Punk rock masters Green Day have gathered the final team needed to turn their 2004 masterpiece American Idiot into a musical. Among the new additions are choreographer Steven Hoggett and music supervisor Tom Kitt. This marks yet another collaboration between the duo and director Michael Mayer (who previously worked together on Spring Awakening).
As already reported, the production is being produced by Ira Pittleman and Tom Hulce. Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong spoke highly of the creative team, stating “Each and every one of these people has gone above and beyond for this show, and we can’t wait for our fans to see it.”

07-29 - MIKE DIRNT AND SOLES4SOULS
Walking a thin line between style and edge, Macbeth Footwear announced the birth of its newest "Studio Project" collaboration, the "45 RPM." Designed to the likings and style of Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt, this innovative shoe brings a unique new look that is ready to hit ground running. Even more impressive, Mike is donating all royalties from sales to shoe charity Soles4Souls, the international shoe charity dedicated to providing free shoes to people in need.
The "45 RPM" Studio Project shoe hit the streets worldwide in June on the tail of Green Day’s highly anticipated album release, 21st Century Breakdown. The shoe, just like the band, is turning heads around the world.
Dirnt's decision to personally contribute all the royalties from this shoe towards Soles4Souls has energized the charity. "We are so excited to be a part of this incredible promotion," said Wayne Elsey, Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls. "We are very grateful for Mike Dirnt's generosity and encourage everyone to check out Mike’s awesome new shoes," he said.

07-29 - GREEN DAY'S BREAKDOWN TRIUMPH

A veteran outfit makes its most ambitious record yet.
With 2004's resounding, career-reviving smash American Idiot — and now the superior 21st Century Breakdown — Green Day has not so much evolved as been completely reborn. Even its name seems to have transformed, from a J-smoking lazy-afternoon joke to maybe something environmental.
This is not simply because the Zeitgeist changed, but because the band itself appears to have swapped affiliations: Billie Joe Armstrong may be 37, but on Breakdown, he sounds like a member of the current generation. The album — an epic, bombastic, narrative-rich treatise about young adults contending with the institutions of contemporary America — sounds younger and more naive than Dookie did 15 years ago. It's not like Blink-182 cynically singing about being 16, either. Whereas Tom DeLonge sounds creepy reminiscing about hitting on girls at the Warped Tour, Armstrong's evocations "of forgotten hope and the class of '13" sound almost prophetic.

07-28 - XBOX GAME WITH FAME PHOTOS

The Green Day GwF took place on Friday, July 24th from 6PM-7:30PM EST at the XL Center in Hartford, CT. Tre Cool, the band's drummer, arrived right after soundcheck and started the session by chatting with fans in an Xbox Live Party. At around 6:15PM, he began playing drums on Rock Band 2. Even though it was his first time playing RB2, he preferred the drums on expert level. He said he couldn't play on the other levels since it was too slow for drumming. Tre even chose to begin with a song from his new album "Know Your Enemy!" The gamers were stoked to challenge him at his own song. He selected a few other tracks including "Let There Be Rock" by AC/DC and "New Kid In School" by The Donnas and continued to play on expert. As the session wrapped, Tre left a mass voice message and thanked all the fans for playing. True to Tre's rock 'n roll demeanor (he's known for burning his drum kits live on stage!), he wanted to complete the session with some instrument + VIP room thrashing (photos of this montage attached). He autographed the Rock Band 2 game sleeve and then went off to perform at the XL Center.
