07-08 - GREEN DAY STAGES THER BREAKDOWN

You're a member of one of the top bands in the world. Your last album sold millions, won two Grammys and was hailed as a punk-opera masterpiece about love, strife and the decay of the American empire. After two years on the road, you start writing new tunes for your next effort, but nothing seems to click.
What do you do?
If you're frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and the rest of the guys in Green Day, you crack open a few bottles of wine and write an album of retro garage-rock tunes in just a few hours. You then adopt a nom de chanson -- Foxboro Hot Tubs -- to release your disc, Stop Drop And Roll!!!, and watch as the first single, Mother Mary, climbs the charts.
"We were just listening to vinyl records and drinking wine one night and Billie said, 'Do you want to record some cool stuff?' We probably finished about 11 bottles of wine through the course of writing those songs," says bassist Mike Dirnt.

07-08 - GREEN DAY ROCKS SEATTLE IN TOUR OPENER
Green Day finally took its latest album, 21st Century Breakdown, on the road with a spectacular two-hour tour opener at Seattle’s Key Arena on July 3 that drew rabid reviews from both critics and fans blown away by the barrage of pre-Independence Day pyrotechnics, and the career-spanning set list.
Along with several cuts from the new release, and an encore heaving with singles from American Idiot, the northern California Bay Area punk trio threw in several old school classics into the mix, including “Longview” and the rarely played “Geek Stink Breath.”

07-08 - GREEN DAY POWERHOUSE TOUR LAUNCHED

American rock band Green Day has just launched their U.S tour last night, with a powerhouse two-hour set that had the guys pouring their heart and soul into their performance. The set included music from their new album “21st Century Breakdown” and some of the fans favorites.
And according to rollingstone.com, the band, which consists of lead singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool were also joined by two extra guitarists Jeff Matika and Jason White and a keyboardist Jason Freese.
And apparently, the stage at Seattle’s Key Arena, in which the band was performing on, seemed to be bare compared to previous stages in the “American Idiot” tours. But once the lights went out, the stage lit up and then there were flame pots, explosions and strobe lighting that dazzled the audience.

07-08 - GREEN DAY TALK 'ROCK BAND' TO VH!

We got approached by 'Rock Band,' and they showed us the one they did for the Beatles, and we really liked that. It made me go back and listen to my old Beatles records, you know?" frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said. "So it's kind of archival, it's kind of a history lesson, it goes beyond just playing a game. ... And it's proven that games like that can get kids involved in music. ... I know my kids played it and they know songs I never thought they would ever [hear]. I'd be like, 'Wow, where did you hear that?' 'Oh, "Rock Band."' "

07-08 - ALBUM OF THE WEEK
The new album opens with Song Of The Century an introductory acoustic tune with a voice over leading into Act 1 Heroes and Guns.
The title track is a full power rock anthem with rolling drums and a solid beat that pulls no punches. It is an evocative call to arms that makes you want to leap to your feet and join the battle.
Know Your Enemy is the catchy, bouncy single that has regular airplay on BBC Radio 1. Viva La Gloria has a soft and pretty intro, showcasing the stunning vocals of Billie Joe Armstrong. It is a song about how young men yearn for the excitement and glory they can earn from war.
Before The Lobotomy has a strong melody and is more pop rock, but Christian’s Inferno is a pure punk anthem. It is in your face with some fast and furious paced guitar.
Last Night On Earth is a love song, showing the soft under belly of Green Day in a Paul McCartney singer/songwriter style. Strong keyboards and vocals tear at your heartstrings as the tale of a soldier writing to his sweetheart unfolds.
Act Two is Charlatans and Saints which has a different feel to it. East Jesus Nowhere moves back to the raw, hardcore punk with soaring vocals, machine gun guitar and lyrics that inspire strong images especially the ‘Sirens of decay’ spreading out across the soundscape.
Peacemaker has a poppy 1960s feel with a dance beat reminiscent of the mod sound. It is a bouncy, happy summer tune.
Last Of The American Girls is a rhythmic rock ‘n’ roll number, a real foot tapper of a song while Murder City does what it says on the can, blasting out a guitar and drum battle while the strong lyrics are performed in a powerful yet controlled fashion.
Viva La Gloria? Little Girl is a lush track packed with imagery and imagination. It has a gripping story with a sad ending.
Act Three Horseshoes and Hand Grenades kicks off with a wall of guitar and returns to the punk screech vocals creating a headbangers heaven, with plenty of colourful metaphors - not suitable for children.
The Static Age is a melodic rock song with lilting vocals, an intricate guitar build and stunning solo. It has a catchy chorus.
The third act also includes the powerful hit single 21 Guns which is a melodic rock song with bite.
American Eulogy is a three part story covering all genres of Green Day music and See The Light ends the dramatic CD on a measure of hope. An album telling the history of America with panache, from raw brutality of war to Hollywood glitz of the romance of glory in true Green Day style.

16-year-old Kamran Imran from Rohnert Park went to the kick off for the band's new tour in Seattle. Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong picked him out of the crowd and asked if he could play. That lead to a nine-minute guitar performance. The teen apparently impressed the 17,000 fans at the concert.
