MTV's 'Green Day: Rock Band' Contest: We Have A Winner!
Last week, in celebration of the release of "Green Day: Rock Band," we announced a very cool contest. One lucky Green Day fan could win a "Rock Band 2" guitar autographed by Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool. All they had to do was submit a video explaining just why Green Day rocks.
Pretty cool, right? As expected, we got tons of videos from rabid fans ... so many, in fact, that we were forced to spend all weekend going through the submissions.

Prior to that, host Sean Hayes kicked off the Sunday ceremony with a piano medley of Broadway and classical tunes. Supporting him for the opening number included "Million Dollar Quartet" cast, Chad Kimball from "Memphis" and Kristin Chenoweth from "Promises, Promises".
Later, Hayes received applause from audience when he shared a passionate kiss with Chenoweth

Green Day night: So, let’s tally it up here: American Idiot had four musical numbers. Four: three in the opening number (one from the cast, and two from Green Day), then the show’s official Best Musical performance later in the telecast. That’s more awards than it got (it won best sets and lighting). Heck, that’s more nominations than it got. Think the other best musical nominees were ticked off?

If you watched the Tony Awards on TV last night, you learned something about how awards shows should work – (heads up to the Grammys, Emmys and Oscars). From hot show numbers with Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele (Broadway stars who are now topping the charts on the hit TV show ‘Glee’) to a performance by Green Day and a production number from their Punk-Rock-Opera Broadway hit ‘American Idiot,’ this was live TV at its best.
