    Now that’s how you throw a party!

    Within the first 24 minutes of Green Day’s sold out three-hour marathon at Molson Amphitheatre Wednesday night, singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong had:

    a) Engaged the audience in several sing-and-clap-a-longs;

    b)Run through the crowd with his guitar so the people in Section 300 could get a close look at him;

    c) Invited several folks onstage to share the microphone, and

    d) Sacrificed a virgin.

    And then the show really kicked into gear.

    For Armstrong, dressed in a black shirt, white tie, red-striped jeans and running shoes, the Green Day philosophy

    No concert is utterly perfect but if there's a benchmark for today's rock shows look no further than Green Day.

    The California punk rock band didn't disappoint and made fans feel they got their money's worth and more with a spectacular three-hour non-stop marathon of favorites at Toronto's Molson Canadian Amphitheatre Wednesday night.

    Still touring behind 21st Century Breakdown, Green Day brought out all the stops - and pyrotechnics galore - when not bringing a myriad of fans onstage to dance, sing lead or be saved by the preacher/singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong.

    More importantly, Green Day proved itself still capable of doing what punk bands are supposed to do, which is speak for and to youth culture. “Are We the Waiting,’’ “Give Me Novacaine,’’ and “21 Guns’’ made adolescent turmoil feel like Us vs. Them, with a specific focus on the fact that there’s an Us, not just a You.

    There was a small but steady trickle of audience members onto the stage all night, one of whom sang “Longview’’ in a faceless green bodysuit and was rewarded with Billie Joe Armstrong’s guitar.
